Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Approaches for Demand Flexibility

In 2025, Sonoma Clean Power was awarded a grant from the California Energy Commission to implement load flexibility and load-shifting strategies in their service territory. This project will strategically target the deployment of smart devices, including batteries, thermostats, and EV chargers in disadvantaged communities (DAC) homes and businesses. ProspectSV, along with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, will support the installation of plug-in batteries and smart panels in Santa Rosa, CA. This project will deploy automated Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to optimize energy use, enhance grid resiliency, and support electrification. The results of this project will directly support California’s statewide load shift goal of 7,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030.
