Clean Mobility in Schools (CMIS)

In 2023, Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) received a CMIS Grant from California Air and Resources Board (CARB) to help the district realize impactful air quality improvements toward its goal of clean mobility, develop a functional zero-emission transportation system, facilitate GHG emissions reductions District-wide, provide opportunities for education and community engagement, and support communities through public health, environmental, and economic improvement. This comprehensive program supports one of the leading EV Bus Fleet operations in the US.

Project Updates

So far, Climatec installed 69 kW solar panels at TRUSD Transportation Yard and 162 kW solar panels at the Winona Center. InCharge installed 23 chargers to the Winona Site and 7 chargers at TRUSD Transportation Yard. BYD delivered 5 Type A and 2 Type D buses to TRUSD.

Outreach and Engagement

In 2024, BreatheCA coordinated webinars for high school and middle school students, where students learned about air pollution, environmental justice, and zero-emission vehicles.

Nine students participated in the Spring 2025 Internship Program, coordinated by Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS). The curriculum involved climate education and workplace learning. The climate education topics ranged from learning what climate change is and how it may affect the students’ communities, to exploring why clean transportation/zero-emission mobility could matter to them and their community, to sharing real-world examples of clean transportation solutions. At the end of the program, there was a community event to share the work completed to industry partners.

Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition is initiating an EV Ambassador Program to provide an opportunity for selected high school students to be trained and hired as effective communicators, delivering clear and up-to-date information about Electric Vehicles (EV) in various community and business settings. Three students were selected for the pilot phase of the program. Student training for the Ambassador Program is provided and operated by Green Technology Education and Employment.
